Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited our shipyard
As part of his first official visit to the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife visited our shipyard on Tuesday 18 July 2017. Here, he talked to the company‘s employees and apprentices with Managing Director Christian Schmoll and took a look behind the scenes of modern shipbuilding and ship repair. The Head of State was accompanied by the Minister President of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig.
Key aspects of the visit included managing structural change, securing and recruiting specialists, and the good prospects of our company. During the tour of the shipyard, Federal President Steinmeier was able to get an idea of working methods and technologies. The use of technological innovations is part of both everyday life and the basic structure of the shipyard and is complemented by our highly motivated staff.
At TAMSEN MARITIM approximately 50 repairs and longer-term retrofits are carried out each year, as well as the fitting of new engines. The company’s biggest clients include the German Navy and their boats, and the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) with their rescue cruisers. By 2019, seven lifeboats are due to be constructed for the DGzRS alone.
The Federal President was particularly interested in the close cooperation between our company and the rescue personnel (DGzRS), who yesterday were represented by Mr Harder from the Executive Board and the Managing Director Mr Stadeler.
Moulds for wind energy are another mainstay of TAMSEN MARITIM’s business. With Europe‘s largest 5-axis CNC milling centre, the company is able to manufacture high-strength master patterns with absolute precision, e.g. for lightweight construction of wind turbines. Blade lengths of
75 metres with one tenth of a millimetre precision are part of our day-to-day business.
